On Wednesday night (10/12/11), the House passed the Veterans Opportunity to Work Act, H.R. 2433. The VFW's legislative staff had the opportunity to sit down with Congressman Jeff Miller, chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs and the architect of the VOW Act, to explain why his veterans' jobs bill is so important to today's unemployed veterans.
The VOW Act offers stop-gap training opportunities for unemployed veterans, mandates transition assistance programs, and includes metrics to track employment and education program success for veterans. The VFW vocally supported each of the bills' provisions in testimony before the House Committee on Veterans Affairs in July.
The VOW Act now heads to the Senate and the VFW encourages members from coast to coast to call their Senators and ask them to support this critical veterans' jobs bill.
